Previous Project
EU FireStat Phase 1
About
The EU FireStat project brought together the knowledge and experience of nine international fire safety institutions. Conducted between 2020 and 2022, the project mapped the existing fire data collected across Member States and proposed meaningful datasets to support informed decision-making on fire safety at both the Member State and EU levels.
The primary aim of this pilot project was to analyze the terminology and data related to building fires collected by Member States. It identified challenges in data collection, differences in interpretation, and subsequently proposed a common terminology and a standardized method for collecting essential data.
The main tasks carried out were:
- Diagnostic of terminology, data collection and interpretation issues
- Terminology and data collection survey
- Identification of data needed for decision making
- Analysis of data collection methodologies
- Definition of a common terminology
- Cost/benefit assessment methodology to support policy decisions
- Case study using cost/benefit assessment methodology
- Description of a future data collection method
